Babies Don't Keep

So I really wanted to have it together enough to do a post like THIS ONE during the first week home with Simon.  However baby rabies (one of the blogs I read) also wrote this post with the poem Babies Don't Keep.  The poem also shows up in the Le Leche League book "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" and the last bit was even in the hospital's discharge packet.  Rather than show you what our apartment has looked like over the past month, has is really been a month, I'll show you our little "chubbins."  We estimate he's gained about 3 pounds this month, hence the many nicknames about the adorable fat rolls he's growing.  Instead of cleaning and working and blogging, I've been doing a lot of the following:

Babies Don’t Keep
by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.

Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I’ve grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,
Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo.

Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew

And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo

But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren’t his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.
The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow

But children grow up as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

We've been napping and rocking and playing and crying.  He's been loved by his grandmas and grandpa and uncle and aunties.  Rob has been home, so we've been going out.  Our family time has been wonderful as we are getting to know the little man.  And the poem is so true, babies don't keep.  Our newborn is so big now and growing and changing so fast.
