Batman...at midnight

So Rob really wants to see the Dark Knight...in IMAX. We went to the theater Saturday afternoon to buy tickets and the next available showing (that wasn't during work) was tonight at midnight. So I am about to eat some dinner and then take a nap, as my staying out all night days are long behind me.

Also note that I have been told by Rob that I do not plan dates, I just tell him we should go on one. I have thus been instructed to plan and execute one date before we get married. Mind you this is less than 13 days away now that it is evening. I have also been told that me saying yes we should see a midnight movie does not count.

So batman, and then what?
Any ideas for a simple yet romantic date that costs less than $40 for two and can be executed in the next 8 days?

I'll let you know how the movie goes.

It was worth it. Even getting only 4 hours of sleep and being tired at work. There was no point during the movie in which I wished I were home in bed. But what does it say that so many people are willing to wait in line two hours before the movie starts because we know it is a sold out show...and on a school night

T minus 16...

...days that is, until I get married! There have been lots wedding preparations around the apartment. And there are piles of stuff everywhere. Here is one of the nicer looking stacks, all of the favors, finally ready to go.We also completed the place cards and seating chart for the reception. And Rob made some snazzy looking table numbers. I am waiting on one more detail and our programs will be ready to print! Then all of the folding...ugg. So close.

Here are some flowers Rob got me on Monday for my desk.

Canisters and Cookbooks

Thanks to my wonderful finace, I now have two shelves in the kitchen. Tonight they are complete with canisters, cookbooks, and what Rob calls decorative crap (My bottles of chili peppers and my chickens from Brazil) The canisters are a gift from my aunt and uncle and are now full of sugar, salt, and soon other baking goods.
And thanks to my awesome bosses at work, I have a set of cookbooks to get me through the first year of marriage and more! Time to get cooking.

Beach

Rob and I have been attending pre-marriage classes with our pastor for the last couple of months. This past week the chapters were about being romantic within marriage. Rob decided to get a head-start on this planning romantic dates for us. So since I have been wanting to go to the beach for ages now, so on Saturday Rob planned for us to go to the beach at fire island. We took the train to Bay Shore and then the ferry to Fire Island. The waves were huge, the sky was blue, I had enough sun screen, it was a perfect day.

Sunday we went up to Connecticut to meed the DJ for the wedding. The meeting was fast so we had to decide what we wanted to do for the rest of the afternoon. Since we were on I-95, Rob said we were close to PLAYLAND! So we went. Roller Coasters galore. We rode the Dragon Coaster, the Derby Racer (a super-fast carousel....I thought I was going to fall off!) Then we went on the Old Mill, a water tunnel ride. Such a fun day. We are totally going to have to do it again next summer. The funniest part of the day was when we tried to go on the Crazy Mouse Coaster. And the attendant told Rob to hold on she had to measure him...we laughed...but she was serious. There is a MAXimum height of 72" and Rob is too tall! So no Crazy Mouse for us.

Rob got major points this weekend.

PS pictures working again!

Gardening

So flowers really do grow from seeds. Somehow I didn't really believe that. So I poured the WHOLE bag of seeds into the pot. Well here they are growing... and growing... I am slowly pulling out the smallest plants as they continue to grow.

Breakfast on the Balcony

Here is the breakfast Rob made last weekend. Thanks Deanna, Toby and kids for the waffle iron. Eating outside is the best!

Happy 4th

What a weekend. This is the first time in years I haven't been in Indiana for the 4th of July family picnic. (I missed two years in college) but since I've been in New York, its the summer event I try to be home for. But this year Rob and I decided to do it low key. This is the first down weekend with no agenda we've had together since we got engaged. Even so we got a lot accomplished.

Rob had off on Thursday, so we went down to Manhattan's city hall to get our marriage license. I was surprised at the number of people in line at the wedding chapel across the hall from the license room. Rob describes it best. It's surreal, like a happy DMV with hearts everywhere. But we have the license and are allowed to get married in the state of New York within the next 60 days! Then I went to work, and Rob asked what he could do. I set him to making place cards and table numbers. And the labels for the favors...

Friday we tried to sleep in...it didn't really work. Rob got up early to make breakfast, but we were out of milk. So we went back to sleep until 9 when we went to the store and got milk and brugers and other stuff for a 4th of July dinner. Then since it was rainy we went out for Rob's birthday movie. Wall-E. Go see this movie. It's like a silent film, it's amazing that there is almost no dialog. The storytelling is just great. Then back to the apartment to watch some FIREWORKS!!! We had our burgers. And when I was checking online to find the time...I find that they moved the fireworks from 24 to 42 streets where they have been FOREVER, and where we can see them, south so that the farthest north was around 24th street and we could se nothing. So we went up to the roof and watched from there. Just not the same as on your own balcony though. But what a relaxing day!

Saturday...once again we tried to sleep in and it didn't work. But we had a lazyish morning. I cleaned and Rob worked on the programs for the wedding. Then in the evening our friends Angela and Max came over for some favor making fun and dinner. Thank you guys so much for your help. Only 20 more to make. This is one of those wedding items I've been stressing about. But now we are almost done.

Today was Rob's birthday, so we went out for a birthday breakfast. And then shopping in Manhattan before church. Not much of a day for him, but we walked around together and I took him to California Pizza Kitchen for lunch. I totally didn't know there was one in the city. He got his movie. And next weekend I am taking him to see Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D.

It was so nice to have a relaxing 3 day weekend. Only 35 days to go!

Our Street...somewhere in Brooklyn

Ok, so it's not OUR street, we don't live on it. And it's not even my name yet...give it 38 days. But Powers Street is a pretty good name for a road.

Memorial Day

All the way back to MAY! My friend Kirstee and her husband Tim came up for a weekend visit. We did some walking in Central Park and came acros this peice of Public Art. Its a metal detector that lights up. You walk through it, and the amount of metal you have on determines how many lights come on. Here are Kirstee and Tim:

Bridal Shower

A cake from Aunt Glenda

I have been terribly remiss in my blogging the last couple of weeks. June was a VERY busy month for me. The goal is to catch up on a couple of important items now, and then post every day this week to get caught up to July. Oh my goodness how can it be July already. The wedding is right around the corner, I have so much to do still, but I want it to get here already.

I went home to Indiana two weekends ago (June 20 - 22) for family bridal showers. Thanks to my Aunts Alison and Cynde, and of course my sister and mom, for making it a great weekend and throwing some pretty awesome parties.

Saturday Alison and Emily threw me a pool party bridal shower. You just can't go wrong here, especially for me who hasn't been to a pool in YEARS! Some aunts, cousins, and some of mom's friends showed up. There was some wedding bingo, present opening, swimming, and my favorite eating Rob's face! (on my piece of cake)...pictures below:
I can't quite figure out how to get the pictures in a straight line like I'd like (any suggestions) but her we have: my piece of cake, me eating Rob's face, and Emily eating my face while I eat Rob's. It was a photo cake if you haven't figured it out.

Then on Sunday Aunt Cynde and Mom threw me a shower with my mom's family. So many cousins and aunts! What I realized as people showed up was that I haven't seen most of this family in about six years! I was touched that everyone showed up. Also at this party four of my friends from college came down. Sara, Kaylene, Kari, and Kirsten. Here is a picture of all but Kari (she left early) on the couch.
Thank you everyone for coming. Thank you for a great weekend.
